The Leiden Institute of Advanced Computer Science and 24COMS start collaboration

April 11, 2017

The Leiden Institute of Advanced Computer Science (LIACS) performs the computer science research and education at Leiden University. As a consequence of the broad working field, LIACS can offer attractive, innovative and complete solutions. LIACS cooperates with knowledge institutes, governments and companies. The chair connects Data Science with Health Sciences.

Professor Dr. Mirjam van Reisen is appointed professor Computing for Society. The chair Computing for Society was created in order to apply Data Science to worldwide health care innovation. With this chair, Leiden University aims to strengthen the role of computer science in society, particularly in the fields of health care and international relations. Van Reisen will investigate how ICT can improve the quality of health care by making use of data intensive techniques. With her research teams she will look at the role of mobile telephones, mobile money transfers and international data traffic as the new drivers in worldwide health care support.

Prof. Dr. van Reisen leads the research network Globalization, Aging, Innovation and Care (GAIC), which connects ICT innovation with challenges in care, demographics and migration in an international context. In her research, Mirjam van Reisen and her teams investigate;

  • The influence of ICT innovation on changing migration patterns in Africa
  • The impact of ICT solutions for trauma, health care demand
  • Migration and survival strategies in vulnerable groups
  • Law and Justice
  • Alzheimer’s disease
  • Integration health service information, digital health and monetary remittance streams in collaboration with the East Africa Health Research Commission (EAHRC), the University of Leiden and Tilburg University.

For a number of the running research projects Prof. Dr. van Reisen finds great opportunities to deploy the 24COMS platform to share information with individuals and groups or communities:

Prof. Dr. van Reisen: “With migration or in situations of distress, people just take along what is essential for survival. Cell phones in Africa have now become a crucial communication lifeline. Smart phones are a great asset in breaking the challenge of getting information to and from people in distress. With this trend mobile applications and user experiences have become increasingly important for our projects. Overtime we’ve researched and tested several platforms. Finally we’ve found in 24COMS a Location Based communications platform that is designed to be as flexible and versatile as we need it to be. The 24COMS ease of deployment and the ways to manage communication flows and content towards groups and communities is exactly what we are looking for. We have now started to use 24COMS for our Ethiopian Mental Health support program and plan to integrate 24COMS into a range of our other programs.”

24COMS; FAIR Data for integrated platforms and data analysis

“In my role as Chairmen of FAIR Data Node for Afrika, I recognized the forward vision of 24COMS with regard to data stewardship and data ownership. As 100% data ownership is one of the key platform pillars, all aggregated data stays with the data content owner. This 24COMS data ownership strategy enables me to endorse 24COMS for the European Science Cloud, FAIR data nodes test casing and The Internet of Data. FAIR data will become the norm for all European Research as of 2020.”

Zesduizend atleten professioneel begeleid met 24COMS

28 maart 2017

Vision on Business Communications

May 12, 2016

The vision on business communication below, is provided by Rob J.J. Kriek, Consulting Partner at Sternmacher Fox, an expert on document-, data- and communication integration.

The amount of information available to us and the speed with which this information is shared, confronts companies with major communication challenges.

The staff of all disciplines must be fully and correctly informed at all times. This should be device independent, software platform independent and location independent. In addition, information must be exchanged completely secure.

If all those conditions are met, a company can save time and money, delivering a better product and service to the customer, scoring higher customer satisfaction and ultimately achieve even better business results.

Integration of various hardware and software components (the traditional role of System Integrator) will become of a decreasing importance. But software (apps) that can organize overarching integral communication and managing messages (like WhatsApp, LinkedIn, etc.), mail, documents (from ERP and CRM systems) and public information (from the Internet), will play a decisive role in the development of modern business management.

Communication of ‘any information, any message, any document at any time, at any place, at any person’, THAT is what Communications Integration is all about.

The specialists that can provide this knowledge are real communication integrators.

If you’re interested to discuss the trends of future smart communications and how new technologies will change habits, procedures and businesses feel free to contact me at rob@sternmacher-fox.com or at my cell phone +31 654646931.

24COMS bericht over Utrecht Science Park Marathon / 20Knots

22 maart 2016
